Using a Smartphone for TeleVisits

Smartphone Requirements

  • The smartphone may be either an iPhone or an Android phone.

Scheduling Requirements

  • The TeleVisit must be scheduled in advance with our office, just as you would schedule a regular in-office visit.
  • You will receive a text message on your phone prior to the appointment. This message will contain a link to start the TeleVisit. Please keep this text message available – the nurse will instruct you when to use the link.
  • You will also receive two emails from “Family Medicine East” – one is a Confirmation of the appointment, the other is a Reminder. These can be used if you choose to use a computer (see Using a Computer for TeleVisits) – the link from the Confirmation can also be used to start the TeleVisit on your smartphone.

Starting the TeleVisit

  1. Ten minutes before the call, a nurse from our office will contact you to gather information for your TeleVisit with the provider.
  2. When the nurse has completed gathering the information from you, she will instruct you to click on the link to the TeleVisit in the text message discussed above.
  3. The TeleVisit will be started and the “Vitals” screen will be displayed– you do not need to make any entries on this page – scroll down and click on the “Next” button at the bottom of the page to continue.
  4. On the next screen, click on the “Start TeleVisit” button.
  5. You will see a screen with “Waiting for <your provider name> to join …”. At this point, your provider has been notified that you have arrived in the “Virtual Waiting Room” and are ready for your appointment. The provider will review your vitals and medical records, and then start the TeleVisit – at this point, the provider will appear on the screen and you will be displayed in a smaller screen at the bottom.
  6. When the TeleVisit is over, the provider will end the visit, and it will be completed.
